Lewis Dickerson’s Personal Statement

I am an honorably discharged veteran who served during the Vietnam War, stationed in Germany in the armor division. I was originally from New Jersey and made my way to Boston in the mid 70s.  Prior to my arrest I had no criminal history but got involved with the wrong crew.  I participated in an armed robbery where someone was killed.  I had no weapon and was stationed at the door.  I was also shot in the back with a shotgun. I was charged under the Joint Venture Law in Massachusetts.  I did no pull the trigger or kill anyone. My sentence for capital murder was life without parole, and that was 49 years ago. During my incarceration, I have been a model inmate and participated in the furlough program. I went home 14 days a year and lived under minimum security status. All my reviews from work, the community or anybody I worked with are outstanding! I am hopeful for a second chance for an honorably discharged veteran that never actually killed anybody.
